Kambu Open Doors

Last week we held our 10th Short Talks at Kambu. It’s a great team-building exercise where the whole company is invited to share knowledge on all topics, serious and fun alike. Three presentations covered the topics: design conference, tasting beer, and Docker.

What is and Why is Short Talks?

Short Talks is a recurring team-building event we hold in Kambu where every team member is encouraged to share a presentation in any theme of their choice.

We’ve had talks about whales, SEO, 3D animation, gaming, accessibility, and much more.

In line with most of our communication, it’s an online event. However, there have been some on-premise editions in the bast. Either way, it’s an opportunity not only to learn about such diverse topics but also to interact with the team.

Ok, on to the presentations!

Design Conference Highlights

Our design and UI/UX team joined up at DesignWays Conf 2021, a major two-day design conference in Kraków, Poland.

In his Short Talks presentation, Mateusz briefed us about three key conference talks.

  • People – another approach, which offered wisdom on having a mindset that better connects you with your team;
  • Accessibility – how to improve accessibility in our products, that reflected on the increasing awareness of what means to be disabled and how it’s being expressed by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG);
  • Design System meets Design Ops, introduced the pros and cons of a federated model for design systems, where documentation and communication are centralized.

Beer Types and Their History

Ewelina awed the team with her vast knowledge of beer styles. Everybody heard about IPA, but Pastry Sour was definitely a new name to some.

It was interesting to see how the different ingredients shape each type of beer or how they changed over time. For example, how Gose started receiving spices after it became more popular.

The presentation left us a (very delicious) bitter taste in our mouths.

Docker – Internal Workshop

docker.com

Jakub and Angelika wrapped up the week with a Docker workshop where fellow programmers could ask and discuss intricate questions.

We at kambu use Docker on a daily basis for developing and troubleshooting software on a multitude of platforms. The quick but in-depth workshop provided a great opportunity to sync teams on the whats, wheres, whys, and hows of using containers.

Want to expand your team?

We have designers, programmers, DevOps, and more to help with your project.
